During Your Commute

It’s your commute. Your routine. You know it inside and out. Be aware of suspicious activity, and things out of place.

A station

At a Platform or Station

  • Bags, boxes or other packages left unattended on buses and trains, in stations or on train tracks.
  • People entering unauthorized areas at train or bus stations.
  • People taking pictures, videotaping, sketching or taking notes on transit equipment or facilities.
  • People who stay at a bus or train stations for long periods without getting on.
  • People wearing oversized clothing for their body type or excessively bulky clothing in hot weather.
Bus

Onboard a Bus or Train

  • Placing a package or luggage in a different compartment than the one being occupied.
  • Exposed wiring, leaks, strange smells or other signs of potential tampering on buses and trains.
  • Bags, boxes or other packages left unattended on buses and trains.
  • Unusual observation, people taking notes or measurements, counting passengers, timing between stops, etc.

Outside Your Commute

Suspicious activity can be anywhere. From your neighborhood to your social media feeds. It’s important to be alert and aware in all situations and locations.

Other Somethings

  • Service vehicles in front of houses where that type of service isn't taking place.
  • People you don't recognize "hanging around" for long periods of time, or using surveillance equipment like binoculars.
  • Unauthorized personnel around power lines, poles, transformer boxes, sewers, storm drains, gas lines or other utility equipment.
  • Packages, bags or boxes left unattended in public areas like a lobby or parking garage.
  • People you don't recognize entering unauthorized areas at your place of business.
  • Anyone tampering with surveillance cameras, safety systems, machinery or other sensitive equipment.
  • Exposed wiring, leaks, strange smells or other signs of potential tampering.
  • Strange vehicles or packages left unattended near crowded areas or under bridges.
  • People wearing oversized clothing for their body type or excessively bulky clothing in hot weather.
  • People wearing a uniform but not appearing to be involved in an appropriate activity.
  • Threatening or ominous social media posts.
  • Social media posts recruiting for violent extremist groups, or supporting extremist activity.
